I have been keeping an eye out for a broodmare for a while, but I was hoping to wait to buy until spring. I guess they didn’t want to reschedule the superior sale around my plans so I nervously got registered to phone bid and watched the sale to see how prices were going. There were so many nice mares but this one, Totally Popular, was just what I was hoping for. “Poppy” is a good sized, elegant mare with a ton of athletic ability. I am already excited about her future and am considering ideas on what stallions to sire her foals.
Her sire is SpiceOLife Present Tense, who I have loved for a long time, he is also the sire of Akira Derringer. Present Tense is by Arboria Noble Victor who has been the common thread in my whole program, the grandsire of my beloved SSLLC In Vogue and Akira Conspiracy Theory among others. I could write a lot more about these two but I think my devotion to them is pretty well understood by now.
The dam side on this mare is really what made me the most excited. Her mother, Farrah’s Masterpiece (Serenity Masterpiece x UVM Farrah) is a mare I was captivated by. I wanted to buy her but it wasn’t in the cards for me so I have watched for her foals. Serenity Mastperpiece has been a very pivotal horse as a sire and has worked well when crossed with the Present Tense/Victor lines. I remember cheering for the beautiful UVM Farrah (Hillock Showson x Majesty My Fair Lady) and I couldn’t be more pleased to own her granddaughter, her bottom line goes back to some horses that I have many ties to from my formative years learning about the Morgan breed.
So welcome “Poppy”! She will be staying in Indiana for a bit, hopefully will be shipping to me in foal this spring.
